Fatz Café, Morganton, NC (July 30th)
Our Free Lunch for Cancer at the Fatz Café in Morganton, North Carolina was spectacular. Fatz is the best franchise restaurant I've had the pleasure to eat at! The interior furniture was made of a hard, reddish-brown timber resembled mahogany. We had twice the room we needed in a big padded booth. We started with a bowl of delicious tortilla chips that was just enough to tie us over until our lunch arrived. My order included tasty coleslaw, French fries and mouth-watering pork baby-back ribs.
Over the course of Martin's Ride I have eaten ribs all over and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Fatz is in the top two restaurants for baby back ribs (Gluttons in Statesville NC wins the gold medal). I got to eat ribs at Charlie Vergos’s Rendezvous Ribs in Memphis, purported to have some of the best ribs in the nation. Fatz ribs blew them out of the water. Meat from these ribs fell off the bone with ease and complementing a skewer of fattened Cajun shrimp. I would go back for more ribs in a heartbeat, even though there are not Fatz up North yet.
Jeremy went with a Caesar salad and sandwich that looked great. Martin went with a minestrone soup. The vegetables were plentiful and the aroma made me want to order a bowl. His cheeseburger was a plump half-pounder that he couldn’t stop raving about. There are four or five restaurants that were closed or out business on the same street as Fatz. I think Fatz put them out of business because they were absolutely packed for lunch.
